About
Curriculum and Instruction at Monroe County Board of Education has the heart of teaching and learning at its core. This page is produced on behalf of the school system in compliance with Act 2024-35.
The Alabama Courses of Study outlines the grade level standards and minimum content to be taught in each content area. Teachers in the district have developed ELA and Math Pacing Guides in collaboration with instructional partners such as AMSTI and ARI. These guides divide the grade level standards over the four grading quarters and help teachers prioritize their content standards before high stakes assessments such as ACAP.
Additionally, the district encourages its classroom teachers to utilize the ACAP and ACT testing resources that are provided by the Alabama State Department of Education to drive instructional planning and prepare its students for high stakes assessments. Classroom teachers also utilize the Adopted Curriculum List to provide instructional resources for students. While these adopted materials serve as a great resource for instruction, classroom teachers utilize supplemental instructional materials to teacher their content standards and prepare students for high stakes assessments.
Parents and guardians should reach out to their child's classroom teacher if they wish to physically inspect or review the instructional resources that are used in their child’s classroom. Parents or guardians of a student that is enrolled with Monroe County Board of Education may request to physically inspect an instructional tool used in their child’s classroom. This may be accomplished by contacting the school principal.
If parents or guardians of a student that is enrolled with Monroe County Board of Education wish to file a complaint against their child’s teacher under Act 2024-35, they may contact the Office of the Superintendent to find out more about this process.
