As a part of the Monroe County Learning Enrichment Program, students have the opportunity to participate in activities that would not be possible in the typical classroom.  Students are exposed to a curriculum that includes real world problem solving and concept based learning.  The program also integrates many fun, educational field trips along with the usage of an outdoor classroom facility.  These aspects of the program, as well as many others, engage students in hands-on activities which incorporate learning concepts with current events, art, architecture, science, technology and creative writing. The program is provided for gifted students in all of Monroe County's public schools in grades 3-8. While the gifted pullout program is for students in third through eighth grades, there are gifted options for early elementary and high school students.

The Monroe County Board of Education believes that gifted students may be found within any race, gender, or economic class.  In addition, some students with disabilities may be found to be gifted.  The Monroe County School System shall prohibit discrimination against any student on the above basis with respect to their participation in the gifted program.  Any student may be referred for evaluation by his/her parent or guardian, a classroom teacher, school personnel, self, or other individuals having knowledge of the student.  Referral forms may be acquired from the office of Exceptional Student Services or from each student’s school.
